The Educators' Spin On It
The Educators' Spin On It is a collaborative effort of 2 best friends who are parents and elementary school teachers. We started this blog as a way to share with others the things that we have learned about teaching and parenting along the way. We believe that parents are their children's first and most important teacher. You will find posts here on reading, cooking, gardening, crafting, writing, and learning a second language. These are things that we feel all children should have the opportunity to experience.
More About Kim and Amanda
Hi I'm Kim! I am a Mom of a 2 year old, a 5 year old and a 19 year old. Babies, preschoolers, and teenagers..we're experiencing all stages of childhood at once at our house!
I worked at a preschool while I was earning my B.S. in Education with a focus in Early Childhood Education. I taught 10 years in elementary school, spending most that teaching Kindergarten, with a year in First Grade and Second Grade. There is no better gift than to experience the magic in the eyes of a child when they learn to read.
After teaching hundreds of children I decided it was my turn to stay at home and teach my two littlest ones and try my best to stay active in our teenager's life. I’ve enjoyed learning how to become a Stay at home Mom, soccer mom, playdate host, local Mom’s Group Organizer and serving our community.
Across the years I’ve learned many tips and tricks of parenting and teaching and I’d love to share them with you and your little ones. Come join me as I share my Educator’s Spin on the daily issues and concerns of parenting. Every moment is a teachable moment!
Hi, I am Amanda, an eco-friendly, garden loving, quilting mom who LOVES being with my children and teaching them about the world. We are also raising our children to be bilingual. As a non-native speaker of Russian, I have my challenges cut out for me. Although I make many mistakes and am a little disorganized, I try to be my very best every day. Isn't that what we all aim for?
I worked as a teacher when my youngest was born, but now have the opportunity to teach at home every day. My B.A. is in Elementary education with a Math emphasis and I am currently in school at night to complete a Masters in Reading Education. I currently have my ESOL and reading endorsement for K-12. I also recieved my National Board Certification for Teaching in 2006.
If there is any topic you would like us to post about, please let us know. We are here to support YOU! I hope you are able to find something here that will get your brain "spinning!"
Amanda
